David E. McCarty Obituary

EAST PEORIA - David E. "Big Daddy" McCarty, 68, of East Peoria died at 1:28 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

He was born on March 2, 1945, in Peoria to Eugene and Urla Siebenborn McCarty.

He is survived by his son, Doug (Carrie) McCarty of East Peoria; one daughter, Carrie McCarty of East Peoria; one stepson, David (Lori) Streitmatter of Vincennes, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Tonya (Dennis Humes) Bridgwater of East Peoria; eight grandchildren; his seven siblings, Phyllis Mervosh of East Peoria, Richard McCarty of Peoria and John (Judy) McCarty, Jim (Betty) McCarty, Chuck (Kathy) McCarty, Ed McCarty and Mindy (Dave) Atherton, all of Spring Bay; and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by one son, Ralph; one brother, Robert; one sister, Janice; and his parents.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving overseas during the Vietnam War.

He worked 30 years for CILCO in the power plant, as well as other various positions, and retired in 1999. After retiring, David worked 14 years as East Peoria Sanitary superintendent.

He was a member of Spring Bay American Legion Post 1115, East Peoria VFW Post 2078 and Central Illinois Cruisers and was a longtime board member and volunteer for East Peoria community baseball.

David was always on the go. He was a huge supporter of the entire family at sporting events and other family functions. He always made himself available to help anyone at any time. He also loved to eat breakfast and had a routine of visiting Bob Evans, June Bugs and Maid Rite on a daily basis.

There will be a funeral service for David at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor Phillip Merritt will officiate. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Bay Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by both active duty Navy soldiers and American Legion Post 1115 from Spring Bay.
