MORTON - Donald K. "Don" Downes, 75, of Morton died at 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Washington, at his daughter Lisa's residence.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1937, in Peoria to Charles Warren Frederick and Reba Baker Downes. He is survived by three children, Keith (Karen) Downes of Morton, Lisa (Dennis) Simmons of Washington and Robin Irvin of Morton; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Downes of East Peoria; and three sisters, Iris (Richard) Harris of Idaho, Clara (Dellis) Miller of East Peoria and Pat (Don) Miller of East Peoria.
Donald proudly served in the United States Navy.
He worked at Keystone Steel and Wire in Bartonville for 35 years as an electrician. He retired in 1996.
His favorite place for dinner was Red Lobster, and he loved helping his children out around their homes. Spending time with his family is what made Don happy.
He was a life member of Peoria Genealogical Society; Morton Masonic Lodge 352, AF & AM; and Morton American Legion Post 318, where he volunteered and worked at the steak fries. He was also active in Habitat for Humanity.
There will be a celebration of Don's life on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the Morton American Legion Post 318 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is handling arrangements.
