Pekin - Edgar "Junior" Bennett, 78, of Pekin, formerly of Fiatt, passed away on Jan. 31, 2014, at the Lee Memorial Health Park in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born on March 30, 1935, in Canton to Edgar Bennett and Dorothy Huggins Skender. They preceded him in death. He married Shirley Benns on July 29, 1956. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Lori (Randy) Marchand of East Peoria, Jay (Cathy) Bennett of Washington and Sabrina (Larry) Robbins of Henderson, Nev.; two brothers, Donald of St. David and Gordon of Canton; and six grandchildren.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was involved in the testing of the H bomb.

He later worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company and also was the owner and operator of Bennett Furnace Cleaning starting in 1956.

He was a member of the Creve Coeur VFW and the American Legion.

He was an avid Cardinals fan.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in the Fiatt Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Creve Coeur VFW.
