PEORIA - Edward F. Stein Jr., 87, of Peoria passed away at 5:35 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, with his family at his side.
Ed was born on Aug. 19, 1926, in Peoria to Edward and Bernadine Stein.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elrene Britton; and a stepson, John Iaun.
He is survived by his wife of one year, Carolyn Midge Stein. Also surviving Ed are his daughter and son from a previous marriage to the late Doris Stein, Vicki (Steve) Smith and Mike (Sylvia) Stein; one step-daughter from his marriage to the late Marilyn Stein, Susan Riley Beach of Peoria; two step-sons from his marriage to Midge Stein, Michael (Debra) Iaun and Thomas Iaun; his brother, Walter (Marge) Stein of Washington; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Ed was a United States Coast Guard veteran, serving his nation during World War II, and retired from CILCO after 28 years of service.
He was a devoted member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where he was beloved by all who knew him.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. The Rev. Douglas Lightly will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Presbyterian Building Fund or the Salvation Army.
