PEKIN - Eugene E. Wertz, 82, of rural Pekin, Ill., passed away at 9:10 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at his home.

Gene was born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Pekin to Louis E. and Pansy C. (Cohenour) Wertz. He married Joyce Schumm on Oct. 16, 1974, in Pekin.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Bob and Carroll Wertz.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce of Pekin; three sons, Roland (Gale) Wertz of East Peoria, Ill., and Richard and Genie Wertz, both of Pekin; two daughters, Stephanie (Orjan) Lundberg of Taby, Sweden, and Carolyn (Steve) Campbell of Rifle, Colo.; two stepsons, Edward (Lois) Casto of Peoria, Ill., and Mark Casto of Rockdale, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Shelly Casto of Crest Hill, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Anthony and Alexander Lundberg, Sean Campbell, Carleen Allen, Ron Allen Jr., Stephanie (Derek) Harris, Teri (Mike) Behm and Erica (Devon) Brooks; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wilfred (Barbara) Wertz of Canton, Harold (Sue) Wertz of Pekin, Gerald (Unabelle) Wertz of Topeka, Ill., and Don Wertz of Peoria, Ill., and brother-in-law, Don C. Schumm of Pekin.

Gene was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve. He worked at the P&PU Railroad for several years. He then started his own taxidermy business. He was a talented woodcarver.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Henderson Funeral & Crematory, 2131 Velde Drive, Pekin, IL 61554. The Rev. Daniel Bishop will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin following burial.

Food donations may be delivered to the church.
