EAST PEORIA - Frederick "Fred" J. Reinholdt, 82, of East Peoria passed away at 3:40 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at his residence.

Fred was born Feb. 7, 1932, to Delmar C. and Tillie M. Zessin Reinholdt in East Peoria. Fred was married to Patricia Grafelman for 54 years, beginning Jan. 31, 1954, in East Peoria. She preceded him in death on July 7, 2008.

Surviving are his children, Cindy (Jeff) Gilles of West Lafayette, Ind., Beth Reinholdt of East Peoria, Steve Reinholdt of East Peoria and Ron (Karen) Reinholdt of Washington; eight grandchildren, Erin, Kristen, Jason, Alissa, Bryan, Stephanie, Nikki and Jacob; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia.

Fred graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1950. He was active in athletics and band at EPCHS and then attended Bradley University in Peoria, where he received baseball and basketball scholarships.

Fred proudly served his country beginning in 1955 and achieved the rank of major in the United States Air Force.

Fred began his teaching career at Limestone High School in 1959. In 1961, after completing his master's degree in industrial education at Bradley, he transferred to East Peoria High School, where he taught industrial arts and driver's education, retiring in 1992. He coached basketball, tennis, cross country and track during his tenure at EPCHS and also coached Little League and junior basketball teams in East Peoria.

Fred was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of East Peoria.

He served his community for six years as a member of the Fondulac Park District Board. He was also a volunteer for the East Peoria Festival of Lights and a member of the East Peoria Historical Society.

Fred loved golf, participating in Fondulac Golf Leagues, and was a founding member of the Tippecanoe Invitational Golf Tournament. He enjoyed bowling with close friends at the Elks Club in Pekin and was an avid sports fan, following the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and Bears.

Fred was a dedicated and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He treasured time with family and his many friends.

There will be a service for Fred on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria. Pastor Kurt Mews will officiate. There will be a visitation on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be an hour prior to the service at church on Friday, with lunch served after the service. Cremation rites will be accorded by the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the East Peoria Historical Society.
