CREVE COEUR - Fredrick A. Moritz, 61, of Creve Coeur passed away at 10:03 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1952, in Peoria to James E. and Mary L. (Spratt) Moritz.
Surviving are his mother of Creve Coeur; one son, Michael Moritz of Florida; one daughter, Shelley Hamn of Florida; one granddaughter, Kaylee; one brother, Edward (Cynthia) Moritz of Walcott, Iowa; and two sisters, Sharon (Paul) Crandall of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Deborah (Richard) Herold of Peoria. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Debbie Moritz of Marquette Heights.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, William Arnold Moritz.
A 1970 graduate of East Peoria Community High School, Fred was a member and worked out of Carpenters Local 644 in Pekin for more than 20 years.
He also had worked for Caterpillar Inc.
Fred was a patriot member of the Martin-Courtney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4835 in Creve Coeur and was a member and served with the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
He was also an avid sportsman. He loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR and was a lifelong Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
