Harry Bagley Jr. Obituary

MORTON - Harry J. Bagley Jr., 89, of Morton passed away at 7:32 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., to Harry J. Sr. and Irby Lilian (Moore) Bagley. He married Tommy Waddell on July 25, 1944, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. He later married Ruth I. Johnson on July 19, 1980, in Louisville, Ky. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2008.

Surviving are one son, Ricky (Shelia) Bagley of Pekin; two daughters, Kimberly (Jim) Hammond of Pekin and Kathleen (Mark) Mills of Springfield, Ill.; six grandchildren, Jeff and Todd Bagley, Jamie Hogue, Chad Hammond and Ryan and Shawn Mills; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gage, Gannon, Gabriel, Gander, Grayson, Conner and John; and one brother, Don (Anne) Snow of Franklin, Tenn.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Harry retired as a machinist in July of 1980 from Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria. He then managed the UAW Senior Citizens Center in Pekin, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Morton and its UCC Men's Club and served as a church usher. He also was a member of the Morton Lions Club, Kennel Lake Sportsman's Club in Morton and United Auto Workers Local 974 in East Peoria, where he had served as vice president. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodges, both in Pekin, and the Kiwanis Club in Morton.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Community United Church of Christ in Morton, with the Rev. Jeff Johnston officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at Community United Church of Christ in Morton. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Morton Lions Club, Community United Church of Christ in Morton or to Methodist Hospice in Peoria.
