BLOOMINGTON - Howard L. Schumm, 90, of Bloomington died at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home in Bloomington, with the Rev. Keith Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington.
He was born July 2, 1924, in Danvers, the son of Charles and Rosie Fogle Schumm. He married Alice M. Welty on Sept. 27, 1949, in Pekin. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry (Vickie) Schumm of Creve Coeur and Steven (Lora) Schumm of Colfax; three grandsons, Ronnie (Elizabeth), Brian (Tracy) and Derek Schumm; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Brianna, Camdyn and Liam; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Jasmine; a sister, Betty (Stan) Dilkey of Murrieta, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Pat Schumm of Towanda.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon C. Schumm.
Howard served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. He farmed in the Mackinaw and Cooksville areas for 46 years, retiring in 1990.
Howard was a member of the VFW, the Farm Bureau and the Illinois Corn Growers Association. He was a member of the Cooksville Union Church in Cooksville and was later a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington.
