WASHINGTON - Hugh S. Rogers, 91, of Washington passed away at 3 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Washington Christian Village.
Hugh was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Curran, Ill., to Roy and Katie Hancock Rogers. He married Ruth Dorn on Dec. 25, 1944, in Rosamond, Ill. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1970. He later married Alberta Harris on May 8, 1971, in Washington, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Tony (Jeanne) Rogers of Morton; one daughter, Jerry (Joe) Lutker of Edelstein; one brother, Roy (Marie) Rogers Jr. of Stowe, Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Dixon of Pana; three grandchildren, Jody Lutker, Kimberly (John) McCormick and Brian (Michelle) Rogers; eight step-grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother, three sisters and an infant brother.
Hugh served in the United States Coast Guard and served his country during World War II.
He worked for Caterpillar in research assembly for 33 years, retiring in April of 1981.
He was a member of the Veterans' of Foreign Wars Post 2078 and a Charter Member of the American Legion Post 1234 in Creve Coeur.
Funeral services for Hugh will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor John Rea will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Military rites will be given by both active duty military as well as the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
