PEKIN - James Malcolm Gore, 90, of Pekin passed away at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Pekin Hospital.
Born on Jan. 28, 1923, in rural Logan County to Charles M. and Edith Pearl (Tracy) Gore, he married Betty Ann Shipp on Jan. 19, 1952, at Great Lakes Naval Air Station. She died on March 3, 2009, in Pekin.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Ronald J. (Sandra) Gore of Pekin; one daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Wofford of Pekin; two granddaughters, Christeen (John) Shumaker and Lynsey Gore, both of Pekin; one brother, Delmar (Trudy) Gore of Huntsville, Ala.; and one sister, Frances (John) Spollen of Warrenton, Va.
He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War and served as a Pharmacist Mate First Class.
James worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1984 as a personnel coordinator. He previously worked at Caterpillar as a core worker and inspector.
James enjoyed bowling and golfing. He played in the Caterpillar Bowling League for many years. As a teenager, he managed the recreational area of the Mason City Bowling Alley.
He was of the Protestant faith. James was a former member of the Pekin Moose Family Center 916.
His private graveside funeral will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Jimmy Taylor will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
