ELMWOOD - Jean Marie Davis, 88, of Elmwood died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born in Brimfield on Nov. 23, 1924, the daughter of Frederick J. and Ada M. (Powell) Sloan. She married John W. Davis on Nov. 28, 1946, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Peoria. He died on Aug. 11, 1988.
Her parents; one brother, John V. Sloan; and one sister, Colleen Sharon Rozene; also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her four sons, F. Scott (Yvonne) of Brimfield, Mark H. (Judy) of Kentucky, Christopher J. of Florida and Patrick B. (Martha) of Hanna City; one daughter, Jane E. (Lee) Farrar of Peoria; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jean began a long career in nursing after graduating in 1945 from St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria. She became the nursing supervisor in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at OSF St. Francis Medical Center and retired as the perinatal outreach coordinator. Jean was one of the first nurses in the region to participate in the helicopter transport of premature infants from outlying hospitals to OSF.
Jean loved playing cards with her friends, gardening and playing the instant lottery. Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean was a past member of the Elmwood Ladies VFW Auxiliary, Elmwood Historical Society and St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society and choir.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elmwood. Fr. Paul Stiene will officiate. There will be no visitation. Starting at 9 a.m., the family will receive friends and relatives prior to the Mass. Cremation has been accorded. A private burial for the family will be at Calvary Cemetery in Brimfield.
