CHILLICOTHE - John E. Guingrich, 67, of Chillicothe died at 10:18 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria. Minister John Cottrell will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Cremation will follow after the services.

John was born on Oct. 24, 1945, in Peoria, the son of Edward and Doris (Fehr) Guingrich. He married Gwen Fischer on May 22, 1982, in Peoria.

John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War as a medical specialist. He entered the service on Dec. 28, 1965, in Chicago and was honorably discharged on March 28, 1967, in Fort Lee, Va. He had received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

John worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as a process engineer and retired after 45 years.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John also enjoyed many hobbies, such as travel, landscaping and woodworking.

He attended Bethany Baptist Church in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Gwen; his brothers and sisters, Carol (Harold) Hohulin of Goodfield, Wayne Guingrich of Peoria, Judith Cottrell of Eureka, Rebecca (Dennis) Pyles of Sparland, Norman (Cheryl) Guingrich of Chillicothe, Daniel (Sandy) Guingrich of Indianapolis, Ind., and David Guingrich of Peoria; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Guingrich of Peoria and Sandy Guingrich of Mason, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Larry Guingrich.
