PEORIA - Jewel "Judy" Rogers, the mother of a Peoria woman, passed away and was taken "Home" at the age of 92 on March 3, 2013, while residing in Littleton, Colo.
Judy was born on April 22, 1920, in Carlisle, Ind. Among her surviving children is Sue Rogers Stella of Peoria Heights.
Judy was married to Walstine Colton "Bud" Rogers for 64 years prior to his death in 2006.
Prior to moving to Colorado she was a resident of Point Brittany in St. Petersburg, Fla., for 35 years.
Judy was the first Indiana University female cheerleader and summer prom queen while working her way through college and earning a degree in business education. She received post-graduate degrees in counseling and guidance from Miami University (Ohio) and Butler University (Indianapolis).
She held professional positions in both states' educational systems.
There was nothing stereotypical about Judy, and she liked it that way. She welcomed challenges and encouraged individual thinking. She was vivacious and a positive influence on her family and community. She was a dreamer and a doer. Judy always said that like the turtle, she stuck her neck out and strove for positive change. She will be sadly missed, yet her spirit lives in all that knew her.
