PEKIN - Leron Keith Farnam, 67, of Pekin passed away at 5:14 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Pekin Hospital Emergency Room.
Born June 23, 1945, in Pekin to Leron Nelson and Dorothy Lucille (Burgett) Farnam, he married Sandra Lee McCarty on Nov. 2, 1968, in Manito. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Leigh (Tony) Johnson of Naperville; two grandsons, Luke Johnson and Nathan Johnson; and one sister, Connie Reiners of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Annalou Oliver.
A 1963 graduate of Forman High School in Manito, he received his bachelor of science degree in education from Illinois State University in Normal.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Keith began working at Caterpillar Inc. in 1974 and retired in 2002 as a technical writer in East Peoria. Previously, he was a driver's education instructor at Belvidere High School.
He was life member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1234 in Pekin. He also was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the River Valley Sportsman's Club.
Keith enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting duck decoys, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was the happiest when he was outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
His memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate and military rites will be accorded by the United States Army. Cremation will be accorded.
