PEORIA - Lee K. Hinnen, 84, of West Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at The Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
He was born on June 17, 1928, in Peoria to John and Harriet (Hofer) Hinnen. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Lois Wilson, on June 19, 1949, in Peoria. After 50 years of marriage, Marjorie preceded him in death in 2004.
Surviving are his sons, Kent W. Hinnen of East Peoria, Robert (Hannah) Hinnen of Burlington, Iowa, and John R. (Melissa) Hinnen of Church Hill, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Dr. Michael L. (Christie) Hinnen of Spokane, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack Hinnen; and his sister, Ann Albert.
Lee was captain of the swimming and football teams and was also class president at Peoria High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois.
He worked at the National Lock Company in Rockford and then the Keystone Steel & Wire Co. in Bartonville. He later became CEO of Morton Metalcraft in Morton, Ill., from where he retired.
He served on Morton's village board, the board of directors at Proctor Hospital, and as elder at Grace Presbyterian Church.
He was an ardent supporter of Bradley University basketball and was an avid fisherman.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at The Wilton Mortuary, 2101 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61603, with the Rev. Douglas Lightly officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the mortuary. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
