PEORIA - Lois Myrer Thoman, formerly of Downers Grove, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at her home in Peoria, Ill., with her two beloved daughters at her bedside. She was 79.
She was born in Chicago on Nov. 14, 1933, to Walter H. Myrer and Sarah Wallace Myrer and grew up in Downers Grove. She graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1951 and went to work for the Downers Grove Reporter. She married Eugene Thoman later that year and continued working until the birth of her first child.
She was active in the Junior Women's Club while she raised her children. When they were grown, she began work at Bonwit Teller, where she was employed as manager of the cosmetics department in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1994, Lois and her husband moved to Peoria.
To her family and friends, Lois is remembered for her sparkling personality, her fast smile and her zest for life. She loved antiquing, traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Michael) Mattice of Wheaton and Leslie (Terry) Boyer of Peoria; grandchildren, Lana and Gena Mattice and Amanda, Ben and Gregory Boyer; a sister, Jean Wright of Naperville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years; her parents; and a sister, Evelyn Rowley.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Adams, Winterfield and Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St., Downers Grove. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
