WASHINGTON - Marie Grieser, 71, of Washington, Ill., died at 10:31 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
Born Dec. 20, 1941, in Jacksonville, Ill., to John and Mary Chapman Laurie, she married Joseph A. Grieser Jr. on Aug. 22, 1964, in Creve Coeur, Ill. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, An Van Tran (Tram Pham) of Ottawa, Ill.; one brother, Fred Laurie of Marquette Heights, Ill.; and two sisters, Roberta (Richard) Mangold of East Peoria, Ill., and Donna Poneleit of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Huff, and one brother, John Laurie.
Marie worked for WMBD and later was a local reporter for the Times newspaper and Washington Courier for many years. She also was a volunteer Tazewell County park ranger at Farmdale Park for 10 years.
She and Joe were recipients of the National Take Pride in America Award in 1981, which they received at the White House.
She loved to play Yahtzee and Scrabble with her family.
A gathering to celebrate Marie's life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Jim Gorby will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
