PEKIN - Martin "Marty" Rutledge Jr., 72, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Pekin, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at 6:10 a.m. at home after a nine-year battle with colon cancer.
Marty was born in Pekin, Ill., on Sept. 26, 1941.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Elaine Rutledge of Lakeland, Fla.; his son, Brian Christopher (Kathryn) Rutledge of Lakeland, Fla.; and his granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Rutledge.
Marty was employed in the hospitality industry for most of his life.
Marty was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Marty was always kind, selfless and compassionate and would "Give the shirt off his back" to help another.
He was a life member of the Pekin, Ill., Moose Lodge 916 and the Moose Legion 201 for 41 years; was a life member of 49 years at the Elks Lodge of Lake Wales, Fla., 1974; was a 17-year member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 69 of Avon Park, Fla.; and was a Golden Eagle Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1869 in Pekin, Ill.
There will be a celebration of Marty's life, and friends and family are welcome. Please come and share your stories with others about how Marty touched your life and lived life to the fullest.
