Mary Schwartz Obituary

PEKIN - Mary Clara Schwartz, 86, of Pekin passed away at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Pekin Manor.

Born April 24, 1926, in Pekin to Frank H. and Mabel E. (Maas) Mills, she married Jimmie Jay Schwartz on April 24, 1949, in Pekin. He died on Dec. 2, 2003, in Pekin.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert F. Mills.

Surviving are one son, Dr. Timm J. (Chris) Schwartz of Pekin; one nephew, Randy Schwartz; and two nieces, Sandy Schwartz and Sharon Schwartz Wall.

A member of the Pekin Community High School Class of 1944, Mary lived in Pekin her entire life, other than one year spent in Denver, Colo.

She worked for Allied Mills Inc. in Bartonville, Farlin Buick Garage, Dr. R.V. Grimmer, the Selective Service Draft Board and for Haas Realty.

Mary was a faithful community volunteer. She served as a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and was a member of the Pekin Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Pekin Hospital League and had served as the gift shop treasurer for 10 years.

She was a past member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. She served on the Scholarship Committee for the Rotary Club of Pekin and as a member of the Pekin Civic Chorus Ticket Committee and co-chairman of Patron Tickets for many years.

She enjoyed golfing and was a former longtime member of the Sunset Hills Country Club. She also was a former member of Pekin Country Club and also enjoyed playing golf at Parkview and Lick Creek for many years. Mary was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.

She was proud to be a fourth-generation member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

Her memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
