BARTONVILLE - Melvin E. Daxenbichler, 83, of Bartonville passed away at 7:35 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1930, in Peoria, a son of Felix and Irma (Koeppel) Daxenbichler. He married Leeda Julien on Aug. 31, 1952, in Peoria. She survives.
Melvin is also survived by his daughter, Linda (Dave) Moore of Peoria; sons, David (Cindy) of East Peoria, Mike (Laura) of Bartonville and Gary (Darla) of Washington; brother, Bob (Mary) Daxenbichler of Peoria; sister, Phyllis Jean Jones of East Peoria; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Kraft; and two grandsons, Joe Daxenbichler and Daniel Daxenbichler.
Melvin was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with "C" Company 8th Infantry during the Korean War. He fought battles, including the "Frozen Chosin Reservoir." He received the Korean Service Medal and a Purple Heart in 1950.
He was a chemist for over 30 years for Northern Regional Lab in Peoria. After retiring, he taught chemistry at Illinois Central College.
For many years, he donated his time with Limestone Youth Baseball, where he coached, was president and served on the board of directors.
Melvin was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the Bradley Braves basketball team. He always made great efforts to watch and listen to all of their games.
He was parishioner of St. Ann Parish in Peoria, with a very strong and resilient faith.
There will be no public visitation or service. Inurnment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
