PEKIN - C.W. "Mike" Jones, 82, of Pekin passed away at 1:12 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Aug. 21, 1931, in Pisgah, Ala., to Claude Newton and Hattie (Smith) Jones, he married Sandra Sue Baker on April 6, 1963, in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Debra) Jones of Friendswood, Texas, and Matthew (Sandra) Jones of Peoria; two daughters, Catherine Jones of Cambridge, Mass., and Lisa (Bret) Gentry of Pekin; four grandchildren, Kyle (Lisa) Jones of Texas, Robert Lawrence of Pekin and Benjamin Jones and Emersyn "Emmy" Jones, both of Peoria; one sister, Shirley Bowling of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one half brother, Danny (Rhonda) Wood of South Carolina; and two half sisters, Cassandra Chauncey of Tennessee and Debra Bowers.
His parents and one half sister, Paulette Morgan, preceded him in death.
A United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served from Nov. 10, 1948, to Oct. 22, 1952.
Mike worked as a tool and die maker at R. Herschel Manufacturing in East Peoria for 19 years and later at Hiram Walker in Peoria for nine years. Following the closing of both businesses, he changed career paths and began a successful career in retail clothing. He worked at Burlington Coat Factory in Peoria and later was recruited to work at T.J. Maxx in Peoria as the assistant manager. After retiring, Mike worked as a ranger at Quail Meadows Golf Course in East Peoria for 14 years.
Mike enjoyed woodworking and golfing. He also enjoyed dancing with Sandy and they were members of the Eureka Dance Club and Caper Dance Club.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. David Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin and from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Navy and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
