WASHINGTON - Perry Carl Cornwell, 66, of Washington died while vacationing in Yuma, Ariz., on Tuesday Feb. 19, 2013.
He was born on June 24, 1946, in Kokomo, Ind., to Theodore and Audrey Smith Cornwell. He married Sharon O'Conner on Dec. 17, 1979, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2001.
He was also preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Cornwell of Creve Coeur. He is also survived by one son, Perry (Heidi) Cornwell of Washington; one daughter, Wendy Rogers of East Peoria; six grandchildren; one brother, James (Shelly) Cornwell of Creve Coeur; and one sister, Sue Ann Newbury of Yuma, Ariz.
Perry served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1967-1970. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He worked several years for Washington Group, a sub-contracting company for Caterpillar, Inc., in the maintenance department.
After retirement he volunteered for Creve Coeur Community Center. He was also a Northern Tazewell Fire Department volunteer for 10 years.
He loved passing time visiting with his family and friends as well as fishing and collecting coins.
There will be a graveside service for Perry on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 12 noon at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Pastor Howard Love will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by active duty officers and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
