PEORIA - Phillip J. Clemons, 75, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Peoria, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.
Phil was born in 1938, in Chandlerville, Ill., the son of Phillip and Wilma Clemons. He married Linda P. Schroeder on Aug. 11, 1962, in Muscatine, Iowa.
He was a graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, then received an engineering degree from Bradley University in 1960 and a master of business administration degree from the University of Iowa in 1983.
Phil worked for John Deere for 30 years. He subsequently worked for Jetway Systems in Utah and Hon Industries in Pennsylvania, before retiring and moving back to Davenport.
Phil liked playing golf and watching the Hawkeyes, Cardinals and Bears. He especially enjoyed attending all of his grandsons' various activities. He was an avid follower of the stock market for years and stayed busy with that after retirement. He also spent time volunteering at his church.
Phil is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 51 years; daughter, Dana (Timothy) Bald of De Pere, Wis.; son, John Clemons of Davenport; grandsons, Samuel, Matthew and Ryan Bald; grandson, Vincent Clemons; sister, Vicki (Dick) Schlicksup of Peoria; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Clemons of Metamora, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald Clemons.
Memorial services, in celebration of his life, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady Street, Davenport. Visitation is Wednesday, at the church, from 9 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
