Eureka - Richard Lantz Dickinson, 87, of Eureka, Ill., formerly of Congerville, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1925, in Eureka, Ill., to Richard and Mildred Lantz Dickinson.

Richard graduated from Eureka High School and then went into the Army Air Corps, where he served his country from September 1943 to November 1945 as a bombardier and radar navigator during World War II. After the war, Richard attended the University of Illinois. He then started farming with his grandfather, Senator Simon E. Lantz.

He met the love of his life, Annette Schultz, at Eureka College, and the two were married on Sept. 6, 1947, in Bartlett, Ill.

After marriage, Richard continued farming in Congerville with his grandfather, raising purebred Angus cattle in what is today the fifth-oldest Angus herd in the nation.

He was a member of the American Angus Association, the Illinois Angus Association, the Central Illinois Angus Association, the Woodford County Farm Bureau, the Taylor Masonic Lodge 98 and a past director for Woodford County FS.

Richard enjoyed sailing and extensive travel with his wife, Annette. He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed tending to his tomatoes in the garden.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Dickinson of Eureka; one daughter, Pam (Ben) Ahring of Cambridge, Ill.; one son, Rick (Cyndee) Dickinson of Congerville, Ill.; one son-in-law, Tom Lytle of Knoxville, Ill.; one sister, Barbara (Jack) Corcoran of Easton, Pa.; his cousin, Bob (Sue) Willerton of Danvers, Ill.; seven grandchildren, LeAnna (Brent) Hasson, Ben (Michelle) Ahring, Rich (Rachel) Dickinson, John Dickinson, Tom (Michelle) Lytle, Laura Lytle and David (Emily) Lytle; and nine great-grandchildren, Blake and Lexi Hasson, Benjamin and Alec Ahring, Grace and Hope Duley, Matthew Dickinson, Everleigh Lytle and and Carter Shaw.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Lytle.

Richard was a member of the Eureka Christian Church, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday March 2, 2013. The Rev. Jennie Churchman will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
