PEORIA - Robert Harlan Bonney, age 93, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Robert was born on Nov. 1, 1918, in Portland, Maine, to Alton G. and Amanda (Hackett) Bonney. He married Leona M. Runion on Aug. 3, 1941, in Spencer, Iowa.
Robert is survived by his wife, Leona; his three sons, Donald Robert (Sharon) Bonney of Discovery Bay, Calif., Richard Harlan Bonney of Marion, Wis., and Charles Alton (Dawn) Bonney of Ypsilanti, Mich.; his daughter, Barbara May (Thomas) King of Aledo, Ill.; eight grandchildren, David (Lauren) Bonney, Joel Bonney, Kendra (Paul) Crade, Janelle King, Tamia King, Preston King, Elgin King and Damon (Kim) King; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Herman Bonney of New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alton Bonney Jr.
Robert graduated from the University of Maine in 1940 with a degree in engineering.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He later worked as an engineer for Caterpillar, retiring after 40 years.
Robert was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a Boy Scout leader for Explorer Scouts and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria.
He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date at the First United Methodist Church in Peoria.
