FOREST CITY - Robert Nelson Worner, 76, of Forest City, Ill., passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.
Robert was born in Peoria, Ill., on Oct. 12, 1937, to Nelson "Dutch" and Cora Worner.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty VanOrman and Donna Baechler.
Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Zoe Rene (King) Worner. They were married in Washington, Ill., on Aug. 10, 1958.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Barbara Worner of Manito, Ill.; son, Chuck (Sandy) Worner of Freeland, Mich., and grandchildren, Nelson and Mitchell; daughter, Elaine (Mark) Ray of Raleigh, N.C., and grandchildren, Alex, Cora and Samuel; and son, Michael (Heather) Worner of Forest City, Ill., and grandchildren, Scott and Kaytlyn.
Robert was a lifelong member of the Forest City Community Church, where he served as a past board president.
For more than 50 years, Bob was devoted to the local fire and ambulance services. He started as a volunteer firefighter in San Jose, Ill., then he joined the Forman Fire Protection District, where he was a volunteer for both the ambulance and fire services. He served as fire chief, then the administrator, before his retirement in August of 2010.
Bob played the sousaphone in the University of Illinois marching band, was a state chairman of Farm Bureau Young Leaders, received the Paul Harris Fellow Award as a member of the Mantio-Forest City Rotary Club and served on the Mason County 911 Board.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, in Manito, Ill. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Forest City Community Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Forman Fire Protection District, 205 North Broadway St., Manito, IL 61546; or Forest City Community Church, 203 W. Market St., Forest City, IL 61532.
