Ruth Rogers Obituary

PEORIA - Ruth Frances Rogers, 87, formerly of Wyoming and Peoria, died at 3:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center in Moline.

Ruth was born Nov. 5, 1925, in Chicago and was the daughter of Frank Joseph Kucera and Ruth Elizabeth Abbott Kucera. After the two met at the University of Illinois, Ruth married James Alvin Rogers on June 17, 1950, in Chicago. He died on July 18, 1991.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth (Maureen) Rogers of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David (Sheree) Rogers of Moline, Ill.; one grandson, James Garland Rogers of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Tara Sheree Rogers of Davis, Calif.; one brother, Llewellyn (Ethel) Kucera of Elgin, Ill.; and one sister-in-law, Adeline Crone of St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ruth was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1948, with a B. S. in microbiology, which included high honors in bacteriology.

After raising two children, she worked from 1963 until 1985 as a microbiologist at the USDA Northern Regional Research Laboratory in Peoria.

Ruth was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association. She worked several years as a volunteer at the Wildlife Prairie State Park.

Ruth was previously an active member of both the Wyoming United Methodist Church and of the University Avenue United Methodist Church in Peoria. Most recently, she was a member of First Federated Church in Peoria.

Ruth enjoyed her family, her friends, travel, social gatherings, genealogy and music. In particular, she enjoyed playing the piano, playing Scrabble and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes, 305 N. Galena Ave., in Wyoming. At the Wyoming United Methodist Church, on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, a further visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will then be held at that location at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wildlife Prairie Park, Southwest Chicago Christian School Foundation or the in Peoria, Ill.
