PEORIA - Sherwin Baker, 61, of Peoria died at 3:13 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his residence in Peoria.
He was born June 7, 1951, in Chicago to Marshall Ray and Mary Belle Cooper Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his daughters, Nicole Baker of Omaha, Neb., Samantha Baker of Long Beach, Calif., and Melissa Baker of Peoria; his brother, Marshall Ray Phillips of Washington, D.C.; his sister, Carol Baker-Cole of Washington, D.C.; his nephews, Roderick Phillips of Chicago and Michael Dominguez of Washington, D.C.; his nieces, Marsha Phillips of Chicago and Courtney Bishop of Washington, D.C.; and his cousin, Douglas Cooper of Chicago; as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a graduate of Chicago City College and was the owner/operator of Sherwin Baker & Associates Inc., an engineering firm based in Peoria. He was currently working as a building inspector for the Peoria Housing Authority.
He was also a member of the AFL-CIO and a member of and union steward for AFSCME Local No. 3464.
Memorial services will be at 12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Marshall Ray Phillips will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the mortuary. Cremation rites have been accorded, with a burial of ashes at a later date.
