Stephen Lee Obituary

PEORIA - Stephen "Steve" Shao-Chin Lee, age 83, of Peoria, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at his residence.

Steve was born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Shanghai, China, to Sun-Pei and Yu-Yin (Tien) Lee. He married Lily W. Ching on Aug. 8, 1959, in Wilmington, Del.

Steve is survived by his wife, Lily; his son, Jeffrey P. (Anthanette Stotts) Lee of Brookline, Mass.; his granddaughter, Elena Stotts-Lee; one sister, Pei-Zhang Li of Shanghai, China; one brother, Ronald (Vivien) Lee of Chicago, Ill.; and his nieces and nephews, Peter, Cynthia, Philip, Lisa, Mark, Nadine, Michael, Chia-Ling, Jia-Mei, Lina, Shyh-Wei, Shyh-Jian, Shyh-Kaan, Yu He and Jwu-In.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and niece.

Steve graduated from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering and was an engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation for over 30 years, retiring in 1990 after many contributions to the design of Illinois highways and bridges.

He served in the United States Army in the late 1950s.

Steve was a member of the Optimist International Club and was a certified master gardener.

Steve was an active volunteer for Illinois Harvest and the Civic Leadership Program. He enjoyed traveling to over 40 countries and all 50 states. Eating, cooking and finding new restaurants were essential pleasures. He documented his travels with Lily and the life of his son and granddaughter with albums of photos he had taken. His pleasure in reading was aided by the friendly librarians at the Public Library and he tried to never miss his daily workouts at the Club at River City.

Steve's family would like to thank the teams at OSF Hospice, Apostolic Christian Skylines and the Visiting Angels for their excellent care and compassion.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Barrack's Cater Inn in Peoria from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude.
