STREATOR - Susan J. Rients, 55, of West Lafayette, Ind., formerly of Streator, died at 5:02 a.m. Friday, July 4, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, Ind., after losing her battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 6, 1958, in Streator, Ill., a daughter of Milli Chambers and Robert E. Rients Sr.
Surviving are one son, Seth M. Rients of Champaign, Ill.; two brothers, Robbie (Mary) Rients of Utica, Ill., and Greg (Ann) Rients of Gray Court, S.C.; and her mother, Milli (Vern) Chambers of Bloomington, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert "Bob" Rients Sr.
She graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School and Illinois Valley Community College. Susan worked as a RN for 25 years, some of the time as a traveling nurse. She took a leave from nursing and became a Home Mom for Delta Zeta Sorority at Purdue University in 2010. While at Purdue, she earned her BSN and MBA at Indiana Wesleyan College and was working on a degree in nursing research.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stuart, Fla., and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 18 in Bloomington, Ind.
She enjoyed traveling, friends and family. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Purdue University at the Delta Zeta House, 825 Hilltop Drive, West Lafayette, Ind.
