Velda Mobley Obituary

PEORIA - Velda Elaine "Doe" Mobley, age 92, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.

Velda was born June 29, 1921, in West Frankfort, Ill., to John and Zettie (Hilbun) Copeland. She married Louis McSimov. She later married Lummy Collins in October of 1951. He preceded her in death in November of 1963. She married Thomas E. Mobley on Dec. 21, 1969, in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1987.

Velda is survived by her sons, Richard (Carol) McSimov of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ted McSimov of Williamsville, Ill.; her daughter, Karen (Rich) Hagaman of East Peoria, Ill.; five stepchildren, Lummy (Rena) Collins Jr. of Tremont, Ill., Thomas E. Mobley Jr. of Kentucky, Sandy Mobley of Pekin, Ill., Darrell Mobley of Creve Coeur, Ill., and Brenda Mobley-Ratcliff of East Peoria, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Willa Dean Martin of Pekin, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, two brothers, two sisters, two stepsisters and one half sister.

Velda worked as a sales clerk for Block & Kuhl and later Carson-Pirie Scott & Co. for several years and for Bergner's downtown for 20 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post 8662, and she worked for the election commission for several years.

She enjoyed traveling, marching in the parades with the auxiliary and spending time with her family. Velda was also very active in the community.

Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at 12 noon at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
