PEORIA - Walter Dale Adams, age 81, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011.
Walter was born on Oct. 2, 1929, in Peoria, Ill., to Glenn M. and Miriam J. (Dimmick) Adams. He married Jaqueline Lee Lain on July 31, 1955. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Walter is survived by his son, Mark (Debbie) Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio; his daughter, Heidi (Stuart) Howerton of McHenry, Ill.; his grandchildren, Lauren and Lindsey Adams of Cincinnati and Elizabeth, Jonathan and Megan Howerton of McHenry; and one sister, Gloria Long of Peoria, Ill.
After attending three years of college at Bradley University, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served as a journalist aboard the cruiser USS Bremerton in the Korean War. After serving his tour of duty, he returned to Bradley and graduated in 1955.
He married his sweetheart, Jaqueline, and joined his father in their family business, Adams Furniture, until retiring in 1994.
Walter enjoyed playing his clarinet in the local band, painting and art, and singing in his church choir. Walter also was a member of the Shrine.
A private service will be held at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria with burial at Springdale Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Madison Avenue United Methodist Church in Peoria.
