CHILLICOTHE - Wayne L. Hart, 80, of Chillicothe died at 10:56 p.m. Sunday evening, Aug. 31, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Proctor.

Wayne was born on May 31, 1934, near a little old coal mining town in southern Iowa called Exline, to Robert C. and Nellie H. (Caster) Hart. He married Dorothy J. Donath on June 11, 1983, in Washburn.

Surviving is his wife, Dorothy; his children, Mike (Cathy) Hart, David Hart and Judy Dewey, all of Reno, Nev., Linda (Bob) Hessing of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Heather (Andrew) Webb of Anna; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother, grandson, two nephews and one niece.

Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Combat Engineers.

Following the war, he worked for Caterpillar Inc. He was also an auxiliary police officer for Chillicothe, then worked for both International Paper and then for Edward Smith Printing Company. He last worked as a truck driver, which he enjoyed the most, with his longest time with Star Transport of Morton, where he spent 13 years, until he retired.

Wayne was a member of the Chillicothe VFW Post 4999 and the Washburn American Legion Post 661.

Wayne and his wife were members of the First United Methodist Church of Chillicothe.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Rev. Raymond Harrison will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the LaSalle Cemetery, near Chillicothe, with military rites.
