EAST PEORIA - Wesley Allen "Wes" Bernius, 23, of East Peoria passed away at 10:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center emergency room in Peoria.

Born July 2, 1989, in Peoria, he was the son of Tamara Lyn Bernius and Larry Alan Prince. They survive of East Peoria.

Also surviving are two sisters, Micki Prince of East Peoria and Tiffany Shinall of Peoria; two brothers, Kris Prince and Nick Prince, both of East Peoria; grandmothers, Mary Reeser of Peoria and Lucille Prince of East Peoria; and his girlfriend, Kim Kirby of Peoria.

A United States Army veteran of the Iraq War, he served from June 25, 2007, to July 21, 2010. He received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Wes worked at Hagel Metal Fabrication in East Peoria for the past 1 1/2 years, last working in lead sort.

Wes loved life and his smile could light a room up. He enjoyed writing music, camping, hunting and hanging out with his friends. Wes was a huge Green Bay Packers fan. He was a longtime wrestler and had played football in the JFL program and for East Peoria Community High School.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory, 500 N. Fourth St. in Pekin. The Rev. Kurt Mews will officiate and military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral and burial of cremated remains will be at a later date.
