Dr. Abraham Kutner, of Boynton Beach, FL and Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on December 11, 2013 at age 94. Born in Lynn, MA and raised in New York City, Abe graduated from The City College of New York and was awarded a Ph.D. in chemistry from Ohio State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He was a member of Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa. During WWII, Abe served as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He later married his service pen pal, Dorothy Gitnick, with whom he enjoyed 62 years of marriage until her passing in 2010. Abe spent more than 35 years of his career with Hercules Powder Company in Wilmington, DE as a Senior Research Chemist. He was granted more than 26 professional patents in addition to other accomplishments and civic contributions. He retired at age 72. Abe was a soft-spoken, kind, and gentle man with a warm smile and a friendly handshake for everyone. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and served as an editor for his community paper. Abe remained a loyal and proud Red Sox fan his entire life. He is survived by his son Richard and wife Susan of Carlsbad, CA, son Robert and wife Lenna of Newton, MA, daughter Janet of Watertown, MA, granddaughter Lindsay Talley and husband Eric of San Marcos, CA, granddaughter Lauren Kutner of Carlsbad, grandson Daniel Kutner of Newton, MA and great grandson Braeden Talley of San Marcos, CA.
