Born on October 14, 1926 in New Haven, CT, he was the son of Angelina (Tomaso) and Pasquale Porto. He met and married Henrietta (Moruzzi) Porto, and the couple, who had two children, moved to Florida in 1974, where they continued the landscaping business together. Every Christmas his wife would make trays of home-made cookies that he would deliver to every one of his customers as a way of saying thank you for their business. He was a founding member of the Connecticut Groundskeepers Association, a past member of the Elks Club Lodge #1352 in West Palm Beach and a Fourth Degree knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 2075 in West Palm Beach. He also served as a longtime usher at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Palm Beach and volunteered at the annual Spring Festival. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Anthony; his younger sisters, Enea Guarino and Julia Russo and his wife of almost 50 years. He is survived by his older daughter, Celeste Porto Colburn, and her husband, Alan, of Lake Worth, FL, and his younger daughter, Marisa Porto, of Hampton, VA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in Maryland, Virginia and Connecticut. Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Dorsey-E.
