SMITH, Dana LaFayette

Dana LaFayette Smith, age 82 , of Singer Island, FL, died peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2014. Dana was born March 24, 1931, in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Indiana University Law School and was a member of the Indiana Freemasons for more than sixty years. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He lived and worked in the Chicago area, moving to south Florida upon retirement. He loved sailing, bicycling and swimming, and always managed to live near water, first Lake Michigan, then the Atlantic Ocean. Dana was the son of the late Dana L. and Doris M. Smith. He is survived by his loving companion of 45 years, Marijane Gregg; his sister Constance Ebert and her husband Millard Ebert; his brother John Robert Smith and his wife, Dr. Kathleen Bey; and several nieces and nephews. Plans for a memorial service are pending. Dana's family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of the V.A. Medical Center and the V.A. Hospice Unit of Riviera Beach, who cared for Dana and his family with great diligence and sympathy.
