Fred TEED

Obituary Condolences

TEED, Fred

Palm Beach County native Fred Teed, 85, peacefully passed away March 14, 2014 with almost all of his bucket list items completed; getting a tattoo was still pending. He is now with many friends and family who are probably asking what took him so long to join them. Fred's youthful exuberance led to military school at Bolles High School in Jacksonville where he graduated in 1946. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1950 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and swam backstroke and distance freestyle for the Gator swim team. After earning his parachute jump wings at Fort Benning, he served in the Korean War as a Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Airborne Division of the 45th Infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor while leading his mortar squad in combat. He was discharged in 1953 with the rank of Captain. Fred married Carolyn Godwin in 1952 and they settled in North Palm Beach and raised their family. As one of the first employees at the newly formed Community Savings in 1955, he eventually rose to President/CEO and retired in 1993 at which time he was appointed Chairman of the Board. Fred was an avid boater, scuba diver, snow skier, hiker and world traveler. He is survived by three children and five grandchildren. A celebration of his life with friends and family is being planned for later this summer. Ties will be prohibited, socks optional, flip-flops preferred, Jimmy Buffet music played, and rum will most definitely be served. In lieu of donations, pick up the restaurant tab for a member of the military, adopt a pet from the shelter, buy a round of drinks, or perform another random act of kindness.
