John Johnson, son of Johan and Mary Johansen, joined his parents in rest on October 13, 2013. John was born in West Palm Beach, graduated from Palm Beach High School and Palm Beach Junior College. During World War II he served in the Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific. After the War he married Gloria Grunge of Yonkers, NY. They lived on Fisher's Island, NY and started a family. In 1951 John and Gloria moved back to West Palm Beach with daughters, JoAnn and Dianne. The family grew with two sons, Bruce and John Martin. John left a wonderful loving family of his wife; his sister, Evelyne; his four children and their spouses, six grandchildren and six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren. John was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was a member of Sons of Norway. He was active with Civitan and Civitan International. Through the years he donated more than 20 gallons of blood to the Blood Bank. He was a member of the Fisher's Island VFW and proudly flew the American flag at his home. He retired from a long career with Florida Power and Light and remained active with the FPL retiree group throughout his retirement. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends on Sunday October 20, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Memorial Service being celebrated at 6:30 PM at the Quattlebaum Funeral Home.
