LENTINI, Richard S.

Richard S. Lentini, age 69, of Wellington, FL, formerly of Cheboygan, MI, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Hospice of Palm Beach County. Richard was born on April 19, 1944, in Detroit, MI, to Dr. Nicholas and Margaret Lentini. He was raised in Cheboygan, MI, and served his country in the United States Army from 1966 - 1968. He subsequently graduated from Wayne State University with a Masters of Science in Biology and Minor in Medical Physiology before relocating to Florida. Before retiring, Richard held the position of Senior Biological Scientist for the University of Florida Research and Education Center in Belle Glade, FL where, among other duties, he assisted in the development and maintenance of a new website for the University's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, which assisted local farmers. He loved all aspects of nature, and especially enjoyed his time spent at his cabin in Townsend, TN, near the Great Smokey Mountains. Aside from his time spent hiking and enjoying nature, Richard also loved spending time with his only son, Michael. Richard had an ever-present thirst for knowledge and had a passion for scientific research, world history, and politics. He served as an inspiration to many. He is survived by his son, Michael Lentini of Indialantic, FL; mother, Margaret Lentini of Cheboygan, MI; brothers, Larry Lentini of Loxahatchee, FL, Wayne Lentini of Hiawassee, GA and Jerome Lentini; sisters, Kathy (Lentini) Rautio of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Valerie (Lentini) Porter of Cheboygan, MI; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Nicholas Lentini. Richard's memorial will be held at Del Lago Chapel, 131 South Lakeside Drive, Lake Worth, FL 33460 on September 28, 2013, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The inurnment service will be at 11:00 AM on September 30, 2013, at the South Florida VA National Cemetery.
