Obituary Condolences

KIMMEL, Sara Anne Street (Sally)

Sara passed away at home on 10/12/13 of respiratory failure after 61 years of happy marriage to Dr. Bernard Kimmel. The daughter of Louise and Walter Street, she left behind her loving husband, three daughters (Maurice Elaine Degler, Kathy Lynn Kimmel, Lori Jean Kimmel), 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Born December 31st, 1928 in Syracuse, New York, to Louise and Walter Street, she attended public schools in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then attended the Mayo Clinic School of Physical Therapy in Rochester, Minnesota, where she met her husband and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Physical Therapy. Married September 6th, 1952, she plied her trade of physical therapy at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, while her husband attended medical school at the University of Michigan. In 1956 after her husband's graduation from medical school, the couple moved to Toledo, Ohio, where her husband interned at Toledo Hospital, and there she again worked as a physical therapist, also at Toledo Hospital. After completion of his internship, Sara, Bernard, and first daughter of one month born at Toledo Hospital moved in 1957 to West Palm Beach, Florida, where her husband began his private practice of Family Medicine. Sara stopped working then to begin her second career of full time mother. Her second and third child were born at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1958 and 1960. During her second pregnancy Sara took up golf for the first time and became an avid golfer, playing regularly until her illness took her from the golf course for good. Sara was an excellent golfer, participating in many tournaments and being an active participant in the Palm Beach County Women's Golf Association and the West Palm Beach Country Club Women's Golf Association. She held many offices in both of these organizations until 2012 when her illness prevented her from continuing to do so. Sara also loved bowling and played in several leagues even playing during her pregnancies. However, golf was her first love and she soon gave up the bowling in favor of golf and family. Sara also was active in the Palm Beach County Medical Society Auxiliary helping during the programs of this organization. She will be sorely missed. Friends may call at the family home on Thursday, October 17th from 2 - 7pm.Cremation by Neptune Society. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Palm Beach County in the name of Sara Kimmel.
