Lt. Col. William "Bill" Edward Schesser USAF Ret, aged 80, passed from this life on April 4, 2014 at St. Luke's Nursing center after a brief illness. Bill was born on May 8, 1933 in De Witt, IA to the late William Dietrich Schesser and Hazel Marie Mabrey. On August 8, 1956, Bill graduated from the State University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. The young Air Force Officer was briefly stationed in Florida, where he met Gracie Marie Grubbs on August 8, 1957. After a whirlwind romance, he married the southern belle on November 8, 1957. He received many awards and medals for his service in the United States Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force in 1979, Lt. Col Schesser developed the Lear Jet Training Program for Flight Safety International in West Palm Beach, FL. This program trained pilots from around the world and included Saudi royalty. Bill had a wide range of interests and was committed to community service. He received the Leadership Award as Federal Coordinator for the United Way Campaign. His community service in West Palm Beach included: past President of the Astronomy Club, past President of the Military Officers Association of America, and past President of United Investment Club. Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life, Gracie Marie Schesser, his father, William Dietrich Schesser, his mother, Hazel Marie Mabrey Schesser Negus, and his sister, Mae Gertrude Schesser. He is survived by his three children, Diane Marie Burnison and her husband, Howard, of Carl Junction, MO, Captain William Edward Schesser, II, USA Ret and his wife Mery, of Orlando, FL, and Melinda Mae Estes, and her husband, Ted, of Carthage, MO; ten grandchildren: Jeremy and Alisha Burnison, William III, Christopher, Alexander, Michael, and Natalia Schesser, Andrew Schesser, Marshall and Theo Estes; one great-grandson, Noah Burnison; Bill's brother, Kenneth Negus and his wife, Duchy, his Aunt Pat Mabrey, and his cousins, Denise Wojack and Jay Mabrey and his wife, Cindy. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2014 at Knell Mortuary. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Steve Wilson and Father Ted Estes officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery under direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Missouri Honor Guard, U.S. Air Force. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Peterson Outdoors Ministries' Wounded Warrior Program (serving veterans and their families) in lieu of flowers in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
