DREW, William Russell

William 'Captain Bill' Russell Drew, a resident of The Waterford in Juno Beach, FL, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013. He was born on Aug 9, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY. Capt. Bill graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY and was a Navy veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theatre and the Korean War. He had two careers and retired as a Cmdr from the U.S. Coast Guard, and then was a Marine Pilot for the Panama Canal. He was the youngest graduate of USMMA to obtain a master pilot's license. When Capt. Bill wasn't on the sea, he was on the softball field. He was a member of a Senior World Series Softball championship team from Venice, FL. He was a loving husband, father, and 'PopPop' to his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hide Ito Drew; a son, Christopher (Susan) of Omaha, NE; two daughters Holly (Paul) Wilson of Richmond, VA and Vega (Tony) Girodo of West Palm Beach, FL; and six grandchildren, Anthony and Elle Girodo, Rachel and Alexander Wilson, and Gabe and Nate Drew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM this morning, Tuesday Dec 31, 2013 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, North Palm Beach, FL with Rev Arthur Venezia, Pastor officiating. Burial will be held privately at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
