David Duran, 85 year resident of Sierra Madre, died June 19, 2014 at the age of 87. Born in Los Angeles to Esteban Ray Duran and Angelita Casteneda Duran in the Chavez Ravine community. His father Ray moved the family to Sierra Madre when David was two years old.
He graduated from St Rita's Elementary, Wilson Jr High,
Pasadena City College and USC. He served in the Merchant Marines and the United States Marine Corps. He was retired from Mac Trucks. He spent his life dedicated to the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association and the Tournament of Roses. He lived for the Rose Parade and loved sharing it with other people. He loved all things mechanical, especially tools, classic cars, trucks and all things to do with the history of Sierra Madre. He loved music, was a member of the Tournament of Roses Band while attending PCC. David and his wife Margaret Duran had a shared appreciation of The Los Angeles Civic Light Opera and shared this with their children. He was proud to have graduated from USC, which led to a lifetime of cheering for his beloved Trojans. He is survived by his wife Margaret Duran, his two daughters Lita Duran and Meg Roughan, their spouses Dr Colin Feeney and Frank Roughan, their children Jimmy Feeney, Kate Feeney, Katie Roughan, Shannon Roughan, and Erin Roughan as well as grandson Ray Duran, sister Alice Gonzales and cousin Carmelita Garcia. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Duran and Stephen Duran.
Funeral Mass with be on Saturday June 28th at 10:00am at St. Rita's followed by a reception at O'Malley Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association.
