Mary Ann E. Hanzel

Mary Ann E. Hanzel (nee Twehus) passed away peacefully in the presence of her children and extended family at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California where she lived for the past 22 years. Born December 26, 1931 in Beemer, Nebraska to Bernard and Catherine Twehus, Mary Ann was proud of her Cornhusker heritage. She was a 1949 graduate of Beemer High School and studied Business at Norfolk Community College. In 1951 Mary Ann married Frank J. Hanzel Sr. They lived in Omaha, NE, Sioux City, IA, and Lincoln, NE before moving to Southern California following a family relocation in 1967. During her working career that spanned more than 40 years, Mary Ann worked for Mutual of Omaha, Western Electric, Burroughs Corp., and Xerox. She retired from Xerox in 1996 with 25 years of service. Her final position at Xerox was Master Production Scheduler for their Southern California Manufacturing Operations division. Following retirement she remained an avid UCLA fan, active in the Xerox Retirees Club, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and continued to be closely involved with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her five children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Deborah A. Clifford (John L.) and granddaughter Ariel B. and step-grandson Arthur B. of Pomona, CA; Daniel E. Hanzel of Monrovia, CA; Frank J. Hanzel, Jr. (David H. Champlin) of Redondo Beach, CA; Paula M. Hanzel (Lynda R. Fithian) and granddaughter Mindy LeVue-Ware (Jim) and great granddaughter Ellasimone LeVue-Ware of Rescue, CA; and Gregory R. Hanzel (Constance L.) and grandsons Jared G. and Trevor J. Hanzel and granddaughter Carlyn V. Hanzel of Sterling, VA.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 30, 5 9 pm at Rice Mortuary, Torrance with rosary at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday, May 1, 2014, 10 am at St. Catherine Laboure Church in Torrance followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA.
