Helen Patricia Jevne died on April 22, 2014, at the age of 91 in her apartment in Sequim after the recent discovery that she had contracted terminal cancer.
She was born to William and Mary Acheson on June 5, 1922, in Seattle, Washington. The youngest of seven Acheson children and the only girl, she attended West Seattle High School, the University of Washington and Stephens College.
She married Franz Jevne Jr., a Minnesota attorney, on April 5, 1941, and settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she long served as the devoted wife and mother to her family.
She later moved with her husband to Port Townsend in 2003. Following his death in 2005, she moved to Sequim.
Being possessed of an extremely active intellect and significant artistic skills, she initiated several Minnesota business enterprises in picture framing, purse fabrication, willow wood furniture construction and interior design.
A notable beauty and talented athlete, she was very involved in Minneapolis social activities as a spousal member of the Minikahda Club and the Minneapolis Club.
She won many tournament events on the tennis courts, platform tennis courts and golf courses in the Twin Cities area. She was also recognized as an exceptional snow skier and a strong and regular swimmer.
During her final years in Sequim, she could be observed riding her tricycle/bike along the streets of town for at least an hour a day, rain or shine. This activity generated her appearance on her bike as the cover girl at age 90 on the Sequim Senior Living magazine.
Upon the discovery of her terminal cancer, just weeks prior to her death, she effectuated the exact time and manner of her passing by embracing her rights under the state of Washington's Death with Dignity Act.
On her last day, surrounded by family and friends, she bravely and happily reminisced, and having been a lifelong and voracious reader, recited some of her favorite poetry from memory until gracefully passing away in the evening.
She is survived by her three sons, Franz P. Jevne III of Meridean, Wisconsin, William R. Jevne of Sequim and Peter Jevne of Minneapolis; her three grandchildren, Wendy R. Sidley of Malibu, California, Franz Jevne IV of Orono, Minnesota, and William R. Jevne of Sequim; and her three great-grandchildren, Jane Sidley and Ally Sidley, both of Malibu, and Franz Jevne V of Orono.
She will be brought to final rest at a family private memorial gathering at "Trails End," joining her predeceased Acheson family members at the Acheson ranch in Ellensburg, Washington, at a time yet to be scheduled.
Although she has left us, she shall never be forgotten.
