Mr. Ronald A. Venegas — veteran, father and longtime Sequim resident — passed away from natural causes at the age of 49 on June 29, 2013.

He was born on March 6, 1964 in Richmond, California, to Rudolfo Venegas and Carol Stillwagon Bay.

He attended Central Washington University, where he attained his bachelor's degree in applied science.

On August 27, 1988, he married Tracy DeLorm Venegas.

The same year, he joined the Army. In his 20 years in military intelligence with the Army, he attained the rank of major. He was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, Fort Campbell in Kentucky, Fort Clayton in Panama, Fort Lewis in Washington, Fort Sill in Oklahoma, Camp Victory in Iraq, Camp Arifjan in Kuwait and Fort McPherson in Georgia.

His military decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (second award), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (second award), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Iraq Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, Overseas Service Bar (five), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (third award), Kuwait-Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait-Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge-bronze.

Ronald was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760.

Although his marriage to Tracy ended in divorce, their union gave Ronald his two wonderful sons, Christopher and Matthew Venegas.

Ronald leaves behind Tracy; his sons, Chris and Matt; and his parents, Jim and Carol Bay.

He is preceded in by his brother, Richard Pollock, and father, Rudolfo Venegas.

A memorial service will take place at Sequim View Cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way in Sequim, on Friday, July 19, at 1 p.m.
