Jay L. Bashore, 87, of Twin Oaks Nursing Home, Campbelltown, formerly of Palmyra, died on Sunday, December 23, 2012. He was the husband of the late Bernice Windle Bashore, who died in 2008.
Born in Palmyra on March 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Jacques M. and Deborah Rhoads Bashore. He was a retired Plant Foreman at Bethlehem Mines in Annville.
Jay was a US Army Veteran of WW II who served in the European Theatre and received the Bronze Star, World War American Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the Campbelltown American Legion, Palmyra V.F.W. Post, and God's Country Snowmobile Club.
Surviving are two sons: William C. Bashore, husband of Lynn Shaffer-Bashore, of Hershey and Gregory L. Bashore of Palmyra; a daughter, Bonnie Sponseller of Scotland, PA; three grandchildren: Kara Sponseller of Richmond, VA; Jamie Bashore-Watts, wife of Roger G. Watts of Fayetteville, NC; and Josh Bashore of Mechanicsburg; two great grandchildren, Addison G. Watts and Avery J. Watts; a brother, Kenneth M. Bashore, of Annville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn L. Bashore, and a sister, Jacqueline Bashore Rodkey.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Jay's memory can be made to Heartland Hospice, 3417-C Concord Road, York, PA 17402, or the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N. Ramona Road, Myerstown, PA 17067.
