1940 - 2014
Barbara Y. Gray, age 74, of Pensacola Beach, FL, passed away on August 17, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her husband, Ronald (Ron) Gray was at her side.
She was born March 10, 1940 in Cambridge Massachusetts. In 1975 she moved to Pensacola with her four children; Sharon, Jimmy, Johnny and Jill.
She married Ron Gray in 1978 and remained happily married for 36 years. She established Parisian Nail & Hair Designs in 1989, which she operated for 12 years.
She was a member of Pensacola Beach Community Church, Crafty Ladies and the Pensacola Beach Women's Club. She is a past member of Aphrodite, Maids of Luna, Fiesta Frolickers, Fiesta Forces and Krewe of Wrecks.
Barbara was an avid gardener and crafts lady who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved people and had a kind heart toward animals.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Walter Hersey; her mother, Marion Wason and step-father, Alfred Wason.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Gray of Pensacola Beach; daughter, Sharon (Kenny) Mattair of Navarre; sons, Jim (Teri) Rooney of Knoxville TN, John (Kathy) Rooney of Orlando, daughter, Jill (Ray) Lee of Tampa; stepsons, Ronald, Jr. (Monica) Gray of Duncan, SC and Sean Gray of Charleston, SC; sister, Natalie Orpin of Gatlinburg, TN, and ten grandchildren: Brandon, Chad, Brooke, Brittany, Jessica, Jacob, Courtnie, Kelsey, Harrison and Fallon.
A memorial service will be held at Pensacola Beach Community Church on September 13th at 1:00PM, where longtime friend Rev. Dr. Chuck Randle will officiate. Immediately following the service there will be a Celebration of Life event at the Pensacola Beach Elk's Lodge.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the personnel at the Blake Assisted Living facility Memory Care unit and to the Emerald Coast Hospice staff for the compassion and loving care given to Barbara.
The family requests that donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 1555 N. Palafox St, Pensacola, FL 32501, in lieu of flowers.
